Rising from the ashes...
Boy Scout Troop 500 was formed in 2008. We are fortunate to
have a good group of trained adult and youth leaders. It is an
incredible story of organizations coming together to make a better
program experience. Boys that were previously associated with Troops
33 and 187 were invited to be a part of the forming of a new
"Troop 500".
Philosophy...
The troop is Scout led with adult supervision.
When the first call for sandbagging help came out, Troop 500
responded with many of its members sandbagging the Ice House Museum
on June 8, 2008. Several Troop members sandbagged into the evening
and again the next day in downtown Cedar Falls, and carried boxes
from City Hall to higher ground, and alerted downtown businesses to
the potential levee breach. Other Troop members gathered up clothes
and household items for the tornado and flood victims.
